Pass guarantees, compared by what it takes to claim them
Most cert-prep tools advertise a pass guarantee. The differences live in the fine print: what you get, and the checklist you must satisfy on the day you fail. Here is the published fine print of five guarantees, side by side, with a link to every source. Every guarantee below is real; count the conditions.
| Product | If you fail, you get | Refund? | Conditions to claim |
|---|---|---|---|
TierOne Defense Academy Our terms | Your choice: 3 free months of Pro, or a full refund | Your choice |
|
Pocket Prep Pocket Prep Help Center | 3 free months of Premium (no refund) | No |
Their guarantee is real and honored; the conditions are just demanding. |
LearnZapp (ISC2 official app) LearnZapp Pass Guarantee | Keep studying free for up to 6 months (no refund) | No |
Six months of continued access is the longest extension in this set. |
Boson (No Pass, No Pay) Boson guarantee terms | Refund of the product price | Yes |
The only competitor here that refunds actual money, to their credit. |
Dion Training Dion 100% Pass Guarantee | A retake exam voucher (not a refund; ISC2/CISSP claims get the exam cost back instead) | No |
A retake voucher covers a real cost: the second exam attempt fee. |

The pattern in the fine print
Three of the four competitor guarantees never refund money: the remedy is more access to the product that just did not get you a pass, or a voucher for another attempt. That is not nothing, but it costs the vendor almost nothing to honor, which is why the marketing headline and the fine print can feel so different.
The second pattern is usage gates. An every-question-attempted rule or a 90-consecutive-paid-days rule means the guarantee quietly excludes the most common failing student: someone who studied seriously for five or six weeks and came up short. We think a guarantee you probably cannot claim is not much of a guarantee, so ours has exactly two requirements: 30+ days of Pro, and your score report.
FAQ
Which cert-prep pass guarantees actually refund your money?
Of the guarantees compared here, two involve real money back: Boson's No Pass No Pay refunds the product price (with a claim form, a 6-month window, and license deactivation), and TierOne Defense Academy lets you choose between 3 free months and a full refund with only a score report as proof. Pocket Prep and LearnZapp extend free access instead of refunding; Dion Training issues an exam retake voucher.
Why do pass guarantees have so many conditions?
Usage conditions (complete every question, hit an 80% average, subscribe for 90+ days) protect the vendor from claims by people who bought the tool but never studied. That is understandable, but stacked conditions also disqualify many genuine students: anyone who studied intensely for six weeks, for example, fails a 90-consecutive-day requirement. When comparing guarantees, count the conditions you must satisfy on exam day, not the headline.
What does TierOne's pass guarantee require?
30 or more days of Pro before your exam, then email your official score report if you fail. You choose the remedy: 3 additional free months, or a full refund of your most recent payment. There is no question-completion percentage, no minimum average, and no claim form.
